suspend to disk and ram not working (suse 9.3, asus A8N-SLI)
Hi, I am using suse 9.3 x86_64 with a asus A8N-SLI mainboard. None of the suspend/stand-by options works at the moment. The machine is shutting down, but when it is being switch on again it restart normally with some fs transactions replayed. Has anyone any hints?! Thanks a lot, pb

What command are you using to suspend? I saw that behaviour when I used the swsusp program or proc interface directly. Instead, it works fine if I use "powersave -U". - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDNa9mtTMYHG2NR9URAmoCAKCXjfJjil2Z6C5bYgg8uFhM1aMFvgCgkf9N ZC/mfEax9RyXKHCN+7IBUg8= =dv7w -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I used kpowersave to do it in KDE. I think kpowersave uses powersave. Regards, pb

Ah. Then you could tinker around in /etc/sysconfig/powersave/, perhaps something helps, specially around services or modules to remove. But I dunno. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDNq+0tTMYHG2NR9URAsvxAJ45oyLzJrjHcC0kmvC4pBYiqKTI9wCcCqss UFKdROoJ2HqzpuTWM/l4KUA= =46D5 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

You might try experimenting by adding a new powersave profile under YaST. I believe it's under, logically, Powersave (I think under System). If you choose to add a new one, it takes you through a series of steps with decent explanations in the left margin of what each option is about. I tried editing the powersave file itself, but had trouble understanding what each setting was about, even though there were comments in the file. By using the YaST tool and looking at the output that gets saved to the new profile, you could probably experiment with different options. I'm sure there are better ways to tackle this, but that is one method to consider. Greg Wallace
