This is certainly a permissions problem. Can someone tell me the permissions of: /var/spool/ and everything underneath this. ** DON'T BE STUPID AND MOVE YOUR HOME DIRECTORY AND VAR AND THEN SYMLINK THEM! ** To recap: 1. I INSTALLED A NEW IDE HARD DRIVE 2. I MOVED VAR AND HOME TO THE MOUNT POINT OF THIS (/usr3) 3. I SYMLINKED TO THE RELEVANT DIRECTORIES 4. DOING THIS HAS LOST ALL PERMISSIONS (root.root) 5. WHEN I RUN ELM I GET 7 RETRY MESSAGES ON READING MAIL (WAITING FOR DELIVERY) I CAN READ ROOTS EMAIL UNDER ELM - very understandable. I CAN'T ON ANY OTHER USER I even created a user, and tried to look at the settings but the same problem occured. I only have 1 Linux machine at my disposal here in work - and I never thought of checking at home. Please can someone help? Why are you shouting? The user has to have read/write premission on his mail file. Under /var/spool/mail do a `chown user user` where the second user, is that users mail file then you probably want the premissions 600 on all mail files, so `chmod 600 /var/spool/mail/*`
