[SuSE Linux] Win95 Network Neighborhood
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who gave me ideas on where to look for the problem of my Linux box not showing up in the Network Neighborhood:-) Next, I'd like to tell you all that I found the problem, and I really feel silly about it as it was due to the way I had set up the netbios name in smb.conf, instead of using one word, it got split into two words:-0 ("net bios name" instead of "netbios name"). I think the reason that I could find the computer tho was because it was being located according to its "dns address" and that is the way it is located according to lmhosts:-) But with all the digging going on, I thought I was going to have a couple of more questions:-), but once I got my "netbios name" set right, the paths to the command files, well, everything worked (as far as login scripts and preexec/postexec) worked:-). I had to set up the 95 machine to make it think it was logging into a nt machine, and now a little screen pops up "wait while processing login scripts", and then when the script/batch file ends, it pops up and says you have been logged onto the domain McClatchey by Office as Doug with User privileges:-) (Now just need to work out how to view the samba statistics from the 95 machine:-) But to a different point of view:-) I know I can set it up via crontab, but that would be global, and I don't really want to do it that way, what I would like to do is set up a schedule similar to netware where during certain time frames, certain users are not allowed access to specific services. I do have quota active, I also am pretty sure that accounting is also activated. I have discovered once I had Samba working correctly, that if someone tries to log in with an incorrect password, they can't get into win95 unless they give the correct password for the network:-) And apparently, it goes according to whatever password has been set up in Linux:-) Also, whenever win95 first boots up, it tells me that a netware compatible script is not available. I have not yet been able to find any docs on this anywhere! I think it may have something to do with nis which I have not yet figured out:=( Is my guess correct?
