Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] gcc version 2.7.2.1
I have a problem with compiling using gcc 2.7.2.X on my laptop. For some reason it works on my desktop but not on my laptop. I'm going to try to get a newer binary of gcc but was wondering if anybody has had this problem before.
???? which? Opps sorry about that got interrupted last night in mid thought. Ahhh I get an errno 11 from gcc when I try to compile my kernel. It's fairly random when it happens. It doesn't always happen at the same point in compilation. This happened when I was running caldera lite on the machine also. It also happens when I try to recompile other packages such as gcc or pretty much anything that isn't very small. It may have something to do with the amount of memory free on the laptop. I have 48MB but when I compile and have X running the compilation seems to die sooner. I'll try and get some more info.

You definitely have a hardware problem. Read <A HREF="http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11"><A HREF="http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11</A">http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11

run ddd if you can or try to look at the core file with xdb and see if it was a memory management problem. I think if you have a older libc, it might give you the memory management problems, and make sure that the version of gcc that you have is the needed one to compile the newest (I usually tells in the README or INSTALL.txt) Jonathan -- =========== =========== Jonathan Paul Cowherd jpcowh01@slug.louisville.edu <A HREF="http://www.slug.louisville.edu/~jpcowh01"><A HREF="http://www.slug.louisville.edu/~jpcowh01</A">http://www.slug.louisville.edu/~jpcowh01 This is my world and I am... This sounds like a hardware problem to me. Perhaps a cache or memory problem ? I once had a 486 that had a similar problem, random gcc failures. I disabled the L2 cache and things compiled just fine. Another virtually identical machine had no problems with L2 cache enabled. Another thing to look at is the memory/cache timing settings in bios, perhaps they are a bit aggresive ? john. drew@adapco.com wrote:
