Hello SuSE'rs! I just updated the Ximian Evolution program, when trying to open it I get: *Cannot initialize the Evolution shell: configuration Database not found*. Anyone got a solution on how to fix this? All the best, Helgi Örn -- The state law of Pennsylvania prohibits singing in the bathtub.

They occasionally tinker with `programming systems', but those are so high level that they hardly count (and rarely count accurately; precision is for applications.)

run the gdmconfig from KDE, try changing the group that GDM runs to shadow. that worked for me __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com

T.i.A. .... Wolfi ================================== mailto:wolfi_z@web.de Yo Wolfi! Sorry about the delay. Actually I didn't do anything to fix Evolution, after a reboot it was working OK (sort of! full of bugs it is). It's an interesting app though it looks a bit too much like Outlook for my taste.
Cheers, HÖ -- While you don't greatly need the outside world, it's still very reassuring to know that it's still there.
You shouldn't need to reboot... ISTR that killev ; oaf-slay would then allow it to start OK...

Of course it's full of bugs, it's beta software, as the disclaimer when it starts makes clear. If you find any bugs, check bugzilla.ximian.com to make sure they haven't already been logged, and then log them. -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 7.x) This email was created and sent with Ximian Evolution 0.13 *********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY. To get a version of Gnome, other than the versions provided by SuSE, to work on SuSE you will need to change the session name from "gnome" (this is what SuSE uses) to "gnome-session". Generally from the KDE control centre -> Session Manager remove the session named "gnome" then add a new session named "gnome-session". This should bring up Gnome when requested instead of using the default of KDE. Regarding the change to GDM from KDM, usually on the install from Ximian, after the files have been downloaded, there is a screen that asks if you want to use GDM or retain your existing display manager. This screen is set to default to GDM unless you specifically turn it off. -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? Cheers, Helgi Örn Thank's telco soltn and Ralph Sanford. A combination your advices and my own fantasi got this going.

first off, the Ximian installer doesn't do this *without asking* you mean you clicked "OK" without reading, yes?

You need to change the 'gnome' entry in the KDM list of sessions that can be started to 'gnome-session' That should solve it, certainly did on my colleagues machines which have got Ximian Gnome installed... -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 7.x) This email was created and sent with Ximian Evolution 0.13 *********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.
