[opensuse] Updater applet error
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I upgraded my system from 10.3 to 11.0. I did configure online update. I have update repo, and some others. All way of updating works. It works with YUM, with Yast Software manager, with zypper from command line, but not with updater applet under KDE4. It shows that an error occured. Where is the log file what I should investigate? TIA. Is it possible you use permissions secure local? I know in 10.2 and 10.3, this causes the setuid bit to be dropped from the backend (not sure which it is in 11.0, still downloading the torrent). The cure is to set, in /etc/permissions.local, the correct permissions for the backend for it to work as a regular user, while keeping the tighter permissions of secure local. You can check permissions.easy to find what they are for that security scheme. The file in 10.3 is /usr/sbin/zypp-checkpatches-wrapper root.root 4755 -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had known about zypp-checkpatches-wrapper, when I installed OpenSUSE 10.3, then the applet said that it wasn't be able to run cause of the lack of the setuid bit. But 11.0 only says update failed. I realized that the problem is another executable /usr/sbin/zypp-refresh-wrapper Someone with secure permissions has to add this to the permissions.local file too. Hoover over it and see what it says. The applet runs zypper, so you might want to run "zypper lu" directly, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform / openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
