AGAIN! task manager, desktops manager, clock and kinternet icon desappeared!
Hi I succeded in upgrading kde with 3.0.3 version rpm packages simply NOT installing before the 3.0 version - the problem was the same as in the object: that stuff disappeared after upgrading rpms -. This time I had all working fine. I had some problems after installing the very last version of nVidia modules so I installed again the previous version from a non-graphical terminal. I restarted X and... AGAIN! all those things had desappeared ! >:( Only icons on the left remained. WHAT the hell has happened? Am I suppose to do anything else after I install rpm's upgrade? Please help me or I'll soon need some psichiatric cure :) Blackimp

You could do this. mv .kde KDE.BACK remove .mcop* for you home directory. remove all the tmp directories and files from /tmp that deal with KDE Restart KDE and let it write all those files again. See what happnens then. If everything is kosher then move over your config files from the .BACK directory and restart KDE. If you had KDM running during this whole process then it could screw things up. KDM will have KDE parts open as well as a mini Xserver. So KDM should be shutdown prior to doing any of this. People don't realize that certain libs and other such things will be open if KDM is running and therefore screw with changes made to KDE. :) Try this..then we'll go from there. I had none of the issues your seeing going from 3.0.0 --> 3.0.1 --> 3.0.2 --> 3.0.3. It all worked just fine. Cheers! -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.
THANX first of all. well let me see, terminal number 7 is always graphical and even I can log out from X, graphical log is always automatically working so how can I stop kdm?

If you already installed everything. No need to install it again. It's your personal settings that have caused the problem. Don't reinstall anything..it's not Windows. ;) * Blackimp (blackimp@flashnet.it) [020927 10:34]: ::THANX!!! you're great! :) :: ::I'll try. do you think I can recover the correct functioning or I'd rather ::install everything again ? :: ::----- Original Message ----- ::From: Ben Rosenberg <ben@whack.org> ::To: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> ::Sent: Friday, September 27, 2002 7:05 PM ::Subject: [SLE] Re: R: [SLE] AGAIN! task manager, desktops manager, clock and ::kinternet icon desappeared! :: :: ::> * Blackimp (blackimp@flashnet.it) [020927 10:02]: ::> ::THANX first of all. ::> ::well let me see, terminal number 7 is always graphical and even I can ::log ::> ::out from X, graphical log is always automatically working so how can I ::stop ::> ::kdm? ::> ::> At the KDM login screen type this... ::> ::> ctrl + alt +F1 ::> ::> This will take you to a commandline login prompt.
