I was told SuSE 8.0 comes with CUPS and Gimp-print driver 4.0. I installed all packages whose name contains the word "CUPS" and checked the package 'lprgn' is not installed. When I try to configure my EPSON STYLUS C60 I realize it is correctly detected as a peripheral on the USB serial port. I select the driver "Foomatic gimp-print" for my printer model (Stylus C60). Nevertheless if I try to print out te test page I get an error message stating the spooler does not accept jobs. A curious detail: if I click on the K-icon in the bottom menu bar a menu pops up and I can see its second item is "Printers in LPD" while I do want "Printers in CUPS" !!!
Please, can someone help with this hassle so as I can get my EPSON printer working with SuSE 8.0 ??? It used to work with SUSE 7.3 (it took a lot of work to get there though !)
Thank you in advance.

I have a Stylus C60 printer and was successful getting CUPS+gimp-print to work with the following packages: cups-1.1.12-77 cups-client-1.1.12-77 cups-devel-1.1.12-77 cups-drivers-stp-1.1.10-157 cups-libs-1.1.12-77 libgimpprint-4.2.0-0 libgimpprint-devel-4.2.0-0 CUPS conflicts with the other spoolers so make sure lprold, lprng & plp are not installed. One important (and non-intuitive) observation - The gimp-print 4.2.0 drivers themselves are in the "cups-drivers-stp-1.1.10-157" package. So, to use gimp-print 4.2.0 that package must be installed with the other CUPS packages. cups-drivers-1.1.10-157 is a CVS snapshot of CUPS drivers > 4.2.0 and (in my case) didn't work particularly well. I deleted it and haven't had any problems whatsoever. One more thing, you'll want these Yast2 packages installed in order to configure CUPS: yast2-agent-cups-2.5.6-51 yast2-config-cups-2.5.16-47 yast2-trans-cups-2.5.17-62 Good luck, -jrh
