How do I rename a lot of files at once?
I'm on an image kick tonight. I'd like to change all my pictures from IMG_xxxx.JPG to Disneyland_xxxx.JPG. Is there a simple way to batch change file names? Thanks, Tom - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

man rename
I just looked at the man page. All the 7 lines which explained how to do this didn't help me. That whole foo thing really messes me up. rename will rename the specified files by replacing the first occurrence of from in their name by to. For example, given the files foo1, ..., foo9, foo10, ..., foo278, the com mands rename foo foo0 foo? rename foo foo0 foo?? will turn them into foo001, ..., foo009, foo010, ..., foo278. Now, can you interpret it for me? I really have no where to start. I guess its the 3 pints of Guinness I've had tonight. You could use "krename"
man mmv assuming that you have mmv installed onyour system. Your example would be: mmv "IMG_*.JPG" "Disneyland_#1.JPG" You could also use mmv "IMG_*.*" "Disneyland_#1.#2" if you had a mix of .JPG and .jpg images that you wanted to rename at once.
