[SuSE Linux] Primary Partition Not Found at Boot
Hi all, I'm setting up a web server at work and when I boot off the hard drive, I get a message "No primary partitions found. Insert boot disk." The boot disk works fine and fdisk says my hard drives are as so: /dev/hda1 Linux swap /dev/hda2 Linux native /dev/hdb1 Linux native I'm using SuSE 6.0 (waiting anxiously for 6.1 ;-) ), a couple of Western Digital Caviar drives, and a piece of s**t MSI motherboard. Any ideas about what might be causing this behavior? Your mainboard BIOS attempts to be smarter than you. Some newer BIOSes insist on having one active partition, even if you have LILO in your Master Boot Record (MBR). To circumvent this, just mark the root partition as "active", using fdisk (as mentioned in the other mail).
