[opensuse] Strange sound problem
Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me with this problem I am having. It started 2 or 3 days ago, never happened before then. I am running openSUSE 11, with KDE 4.1.3 (fully up to date). My soundcard is listed as a Intel ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller. The module snd_hda_intel gets loaded for this card, and that works just fine. My problem happens fairly often, is a majoy annoyance and I have no idea how to fix it. When I log into KDE, there is sound and everything works fine. However, if I play a flash movie in Firefox for instance, my sound will be gone after that, at least until I close Firefox. It doesn't always come back, though. Sometimes, the only way to fix it, is to log out and back in. My sound can also fail when trying to watch a movie (not flash, but a DVD). Is there someone who could help me troubleshoot this issue, please? I don't know where to start, frankly. Hi Rajko, pulseaudio is not installed on this system. I heard there were many problems with it a while ago, so I removed from the installation. Any other ideas? Thanks, Joop -- "When you just want a system that works, you choose Linux; when you want a system that just works, you choose Microsoft."

I have removed nearly everything...everything except for libpulse0. If I try to removed that, Yast wants to uninstall a bunch of other apps, like Mplayer, ManDVD and mpg123. I need those apps... It wants to uninstall these apps because gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good requires libpulse0. Probably videos skipping frames, sound jitter etc. That is not limited to DVDs, it applies on online videos. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It is interesting to see bock diagram of Pulseaudio. http://rudd-o.com/archives/2007/11/05/how-pulseaudio-works/ and our problem can be 2. or 8. http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/KnownIncompatibilities -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
