I'd recommend against 2.2.9 and for 2.2.7. There seem to be far more problems with 2.2.9. Don't even think about touching 2.2.8.

ACtually, just did 2.2.9 on my laptop with suse 6.0 on it. No real issues whatsoever. Had to recompile pcmcia services but all is working quite well. I think 2.2.8 had problems.
