Hi folks , need a little more help here , What is the difrence between 16450 and 16550 com/serial ports ? Which are better , give faster preformance for up to 56K dial up modem . I have a 486 but the ide/io controller wich has 16550 com ports has a broken (does not work) floppy chanel . The spare I have that has a working floppy chanal has only 16450 ports. Machine has an ethernet card using thin twisted pair ethernet , so I only need the flopy for upgrading or installing a new version of suse and or kernal , unless I copy the kernal over the network. Any one have a spare ISA ide/io controller with 16550 serial ports that needs a new home ? If so please drop a message . BYW any one have any resources for Old/reclycled parts and equipment , drop a line if you do.
