This is a real sumn question.. sorry As I understand it, when logging into linux /etc/profile is execute first then /etc/profile.local then /home/username/.profile So if I want to add to the system path I should add to profile.local. So why when I added PATH=PATH$:/usr/local/program/bin It doesn't it appear in my path and I can't execute anything in the path .. what gives?!? /etc/profile runs /etc/profile.local and ~/.profile if they exsist. i greatly prefer systemwide stuff in /etc/profile.d/*.sh, where * is the name of the program/system that the modifications are for. /etc/profile.local is prolly just as good, but /etc/profile gets overwritten on an upgrade. anyway, to answer your question, ensure PATH is exported. export PATH=$PATH:/this/dir/here:/this/one/too cheers. -- ======================================================================== Rocky McGaugh Atipa Linux Solutions Product Development www.atipa.com rocky@smluc.org rmcgaugh@atipa.com ======================================================================== On Tue, 25 Apr 2000, CN Davies wrote:

Try `export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/program/bin'. Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
