Hey there guys -- I'm running into an issue on our cluster here where SuSE is using about 40% of the free memory and then switches into swap space -- which is slowing down our cluster significantly. What am I looking at here? Is it a memory usage option in the kernel? Maybe I'm just not understanding the processes at work here :) Anyone that could help out, I'd appreciate it :). Thanks! I feel fairly certain the rest of the memory is used too - maybe for filesystem caching.

Are you positive that 1) your current processes are only using up 40% of available memory, and 2) swapping makes your system slow? I think you'll need to provide some more details, like which processes you're running etc. etc. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Yes - and how much RAM you have. send us output of: 1) ps aux 2) free 3) uname -a Then we might start discuss. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
