[S.u.S.E. Linux] Thinkpad and SUSE5.2 woes
Hi! Has anybody had success booting a Thinkpad (365x, primarily) with their SUSE 5.2 floppies? I have had lots of success installing and configuring SUSE5..2 in several desktops, but none yet with my thinkpad. The actual problem is as follows: I create the boot floppies (eide01, 2, or 3) using rawrite.exe or dd. I place these floppies into the floppy drive and start up the machine. Within a few seconds, I get the "Welcome to SUSE" splash screen. This is followed by the boot prompt. Within a couple of seconds, the boot process begins. Then, the computer hangs entirely on the second line after the boot: prompt. It so happens that the same problem occurs with Debian 1.3.1. I have had to install RedHat 4.2, which is the only Linux distribution that will load up. This leads me to the following question: am I missing something here? Why would my thinkpad work well with RH4.2 (including Xwindows!) but not the others? I really would like to get SUSE5.2 working on this machine. Any suggestions would be greatily appreciated.
