[opensuse] What features is KDE4 missing when compared to KDE3?
There's been numerous discussion over the last few months about how good or bad KDE4 is and how much is missing from KDE4 when compared to KDE3. I suggested that we create a wiki page so that we can have a central list of stuff and so that we can "cross" them off as they are fixed. Dotan Cohen has graciuosly offered to put together a page, so in the interests of improving the openSUSE distro, I am asking everyone to focus their replies to this thread on what is considered missing from KDE4. Please list the feature and the version of KDE4 you are running. If you are not sure, the state that. Some have not added the build service and don't have the newest updated version of KDE4, so everyone please keep that in mind. Also, let's please try to keep this on topic. This isn't a thread to bash KDE4(no matter how much I or others don't care for it). It's hopefully a way to get the functionallity that some feel is missing put into KDE4. This is both the wrong mailing list (right would be either opensuse-kde or opensuse-factory) and the wrong project (it should be upstream / KDE). Not even telling that the discussion about this stuff has happened already in time several weeks ago and led to the creation of a wiki page [1]. Hi, I'm using KDE 4.1. On feature still missing is the recognition of encrypted volumes, in my case an encrypted USB-disk. I've read that this was an addon to KDE 3.5. , however, the automatic detection and mounting would be an important advance. At all I can say, that many things are different. Over the time and with some practice, using KDE 4.1 on a daily 8 hour base, I think it is ready for the end user. Let's see how thinks develop with KDE 4 maturing.
