Can documents written through Lyx be recorded as or transformed into ".ps" or ".pdf" files ???
Yes and if you have the necessary tools already installed then from the menubar select View and you should have DVI PDF HTML options available
Thank you. FOund them !
By chance, do you know how and if it is possible to insert a simple picture into a Lyx-created document ?
From the menu Insert ->Graphics
Also Help -> Tutorial Use manual Customization documents are available :-) ps It is always better to send to the List as I have a very bad habit of using SpamAssassin -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx

In my Lyx version I can find Insert-->Figure that imports a PostScript file created by some other tool. I had already found that. What I could not find is how to rescale the figure so as it fits the space reserved to it on the document. In fact I have not been sucessful at inserting a figure so far. Lyx keeps generating error messages whenever I try. Another question: for some reason (??) I now have the GNOME bottom menu superimposed to the KDE bottom menu. Of couse I can "hide the GNOME pannel" and use the KDE one that I'm more familiar with. However all my attempts to remove the GNOME pannel have failed so far. It is still there in form of a little handle ! I'm terribly concerned at using Yast2 and remove all what is tagged "*gnome*" ... I do not have time to recreate my working env=ironment now if I mess it up... Is there any way to eliminate the GNoOME pannel ? Finally .. when is SuSE 8.1 going to be released and ready on stores shelves ? I saw a lot of discussion about SuSE 8.1 recently but did not have the time to read .. There seem to be a more updated KDE version than the one that comes with SuSE 8.0 installation kit .. Is it available from some web site ? Is it compatible with SuSE 8.0 ??? Thank you. Suse 8.0 I remember having a similar problem inserting an image into Lyx and finding it had dissappeared the next time. I experimented by putting it into different directories and pointing Lyx to it. I was able to get different results with this. I also tried running Lyx from a console and doing xhost + localhost and then inserting the image. You may also like to check permissions of the inserted file. Maybe run Lyx as root, and insert the figure. If this works you can then go back and look for a reason it will not work as user. Lyx understands encapsulated postscript files. Open the postscript file in ghost-view. Postion the mouse cursoe on the lower left of the drawing area and right down the coordinates. Then position the curos the on upper right corner. ONe of my example files have 48 111 as lower left, and 592 600 as upper right. Then to the header of the postscript file, add a line %%BoundingBox: 48 111 592 600. Now when you import the postscript file, you won't get these errors. BTW, you can manually add these points in the BoundBox option in the LyX dialogbox. Salman On Tuesday 24 September 2002 23:34, Maura Edelweiss Monville wrote:

I've just tried to save my Lyx created file in "pdf" format. Ther result is that Lyx refuses to perform this translation and states there are 3 errors I have to fix ... How can I find them ??? Moreover, I've used the "Del" mathematical symbol for inficating "Divergence" and the rotated "Del" to indicate "Gradient". These symbols come from Lyx Mathematical palette. However, they are not displayed rather what shows up is a sort of meta-language defnition ... I'm afraid they will not be printed out or translated into "pdf" format. Thank you in advacne for your help Maura

Maura, I like to start lyx from a terminal; thus I can see the error messages in full, and know what it is really happening. If all that fails, you can simply print to a (postcript) file, and then convert it to pdf using ps2pdf directly. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson El 02.09.25 a las 15:02, Maura Edelweiss Monville escribió:
