This has created the missing header files. DO NOT COMPILE MODULES OR INSTALL THE KERNEL OR MODULES!
Ooops, and what if you've already taken that step?
Well, that's easy. Tidy up: rm -rf /usr/src/linux* rm -rf /lib/modules/* rpm -e kernel_source k_deflt --force --nodeps Do not pass go, do not collect $200, and DO NOT REBOOT NOW! Install a suitable kernel binary and the source. mk_initrd lilo Do not forget the last 2 steps, or you will go straight to jail next time you boot. If you have more than one kernel or a diffreent one installed, modify the commands as is fit.
ln -s ../../etc/init.d/vmware /usr/sbin/rcvmware
This lets your start the vmware networking with rcvmware start/stop, like any other service.
A more complete solution there would be to copy /etc/init.d/skeleton to /etc/init.d/rcvmware and then edit the contents to call /usr/sbin/rcvmware. Once done you: # ( cd / ; insserv /etc/init.d/rcvmware ) .. and this will create start and stop link files for you
Technically you are right, but it works with just the symlink, and the run-level links are there too. Maybe later, when I can be bothered, but I'll add the suggestion to the writeup. Thanks. Volker
