I would like to be able to play DVD's with SuSE v8.0 I have installed libdvdcss, compiled & installed Xine, but when I try and play a DVD xine complains of bad MRL. Looking around the system I do not have a /dev/dvd which I guess doesn't help. Can anyone give me some guidance as to how to get it working please? Did you install d4d or d5d?

ln -s /dev/dvddevice /dev/dvd where dvddevice is whatever device your dvd is. hdc for instance is master on the second ide channel. //Anders
I did a rpm -qa | egrep "d4d|d5d" and found nothing, I also did a pin d4d & pin d5d but couldn't identify which package they are in. Where are they? Phil On Sunday 12 May 2002 16:59, Anders Johansson wrote:

They're not on the cds for legal reasons. This is the DeCSS code that people are getting sued over in the states. There's a link on the xine homepage (xine.sourceforge.net) labelled "captain css". Download and follow the instructions. Or you can grab rpms from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/~jcm/skyblade/ I think you want to do that anyway, since the version on the 8.0 cds isn't the latest. //Anders
On a related matter, I have got MPlayer running under SuSE 8.0, however I have installed Ogle and it complains that libXv.so.1 cannot be opened. I have searched my PC and the library is indeed missing, searching on Google confirms that it should be in the package xshared.rpm. Using Kpackage I have discovered that this library is not on the file list for this RPM. Any ideas as to how I can find and install this library. Is it safe enough to download a current copy of xshared from another source and install it over the top of the current RPM ? David Bottrill
