Unless you have some special card .. a modem should never connect in a regular PC on Com 5. PC's by default only have 4 com ports .. Com 1 & 3 ( 3f8 and 3e8 and they share irq 4 ) so if your mouse is a serial mouse and your modem is plug and play ( which defaults to com 3 most of the time..you got problems..check this out...if the modem can be hard coded to Com 2 ( 2f8 irq 3 ) try this. Com 2 & 4 ( 2f8 and 2e8 IRQ 3 ) just as an FYI. You can also check an see if you have a Winmodem, if so .. you need to go buy a new modem. One for use with the rest of the world ;)
Does someone knows how to configure this in Linux
Once you ascertain whether or not it is a Winmodem, then you should have an easy go of it. Just start YaST as root and configure the modem.
Or do I have connect it with my ISDN bri 16.3 wich is standing on COM 3
Don't worry about this until you have licked the modem problem, then tackle this.
I have a multimedia system with a ati videocard and TV card also a Soundblaster PCI64 witch is also giving some problems
Which ATI videocard do you have, did you start SAX and go though the videocards listed to see which one matches? I can't help ya on the T.V. card cause I have a 51 inch t.v. I use as a T.V. :) The sound blaster should be pretty easy, just make sure you installed the OSS software in the pay directory of the cd..and puts the installation software in /tmp. Go into /tmp and run the setup, make sure you know what revision of SB64 it is...there are quite a few...and also Creative Labs has documentation and some drivers on their site as well. That's about all I can think of right now .. cause I haven't finished my morning coffee ;) TTFN, -- Ben Rosenberg |---| <A HREF="mailto:dragula@anet-stl.com">mailto:dragula@anet-stl.com</A> "Workstation powered by SuSE LiNUX" -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
