[SLE] Maxtor Disk not being recognized by SuSE 6.4
I just bought a Maxtor DiamondMax® 60 Ultra DMA 100 Model 96147H8. My BIOS sees the drive as 8GB. I installed it on the my Linux system. If I format outside with VFAT using MAX-BLAST I can mount the disk as vfat under Linux. At boot time the OS recognized the disk but fdisk gives me a smaller drive. I tried adding an option to lilo, but that did not work. What can I do to recognized the drive under Linux and have it formatted as a Linux partition and not as vfat? Any suggestions, ideas, please let me know. I have seen patches for the kernel for large drives. Is there a patch for SuSE Linux? You should try cfdisk. When I used fdisk on my IBM 25GB hard drive, it would only see 8GB even though I had full BIOS support. When I tried cfdisk (much nicer than fdisk), I had no problems with partitioning my drive.
