RE: [SLE] Suggestion for SuSE web site (and SuSE Linux)
Well... actually Yast2 does run in a console. Kill your x server and give it a shot. Just issue
yast2
as root and get ready to be impressed. :)

I do have to concede that this functionality is not very intuitive and I would expect that SuSE will vastly improve this with upcoming versions of Yast 2.
That reminds me: It seems like SuSE isn't do too much work on yast ("YaST1") anymore. The reason I bring this us is that I run suse on several console-only (no X server) installs, where I must use the original YaST. I hope they are working on an ncurses interface to yast2. In particular I which there was a way to auto-detect network cards from the console yast like there is in YaST2

Sometimes I need to install just one RPM, and know that it's on the CD but can't find it. On Red Hat's web site they have a search engine so you can search for RPMs by name. Apparently it indexes all of the RPMs on
FTP server. It would be really cool if SuSE would have something
that, and also, if it's on the CD, if the search engine would report what series the designated RPM is in on the CD.
For that matter, it would be handy if YaST had a search function in
i learn something new everyday... :) thanks! -----Original Message----- From: Tor Sigurdsson To: Seth Payne Cc: suse-linux-e@suse.com Sent: 1/4/01 4:54 PM Subject: Re: [SLE] Suggestion for SuSE web site (and SuSE Linux) Why kill the X-server ? :-) # unset DISPLAY # yast2 Sometimes life is just too easy ;-> -tosi their like the
"Change/Create Configuration" submenu that would search for included RPMs
by
name. Even cooler would be if it could also search for files by name and tell you what RPM it's in..
Just an idea....
