Some programs have this as default TEMP location as it is expected to have more space than /tmp ... e.g. it's the default location of the build root directory and the package cache for "osc build": $ sudo du -shxc /var/tmp/build-root /var/tmp/osbuild-packagecache 2.6G /var/tmp/build-root 1.3G /var/tmp/osbuild-packagecache 3.9G total That amount wouldn't be a problem for a tmpfs on that host as it has enough RAM, but I wouldn't bet for other hosts ...
