[opensuse] Absent Trash icon
This is oS v11.3/kde v4.4.4. The absence of the Trash icon didn't strike me as an urgent priority, until yesterday, when I was unable to move a file to trash because trash is full. Tried to find the trash file, but found only trash files dedicated to specific apps. Googling brought me to bug that indicates that KDE4 doesn't have trash support, which seems beyong merely careless; the bug is not going to be rectified. I assume that there is a workaround for this, but I haven't found it. Where are the files that I have been deleting all this time, which have filled up the non-existent trash? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Guess you have debunked that reckless rumour. You are using *kde4* and you say your deleted items have filled trash.
I assume that there is a workaround for this, but I haven't found it. Where are the files that I have been deleting all this time, which have filled up the non-existent trash?

Thank you.

The page for the bug says kde4 doesn't support trash; I didn't make it up. The error message telling me that trash is full and I should attend to it manually is also real; I didn't make it up. No, it isn't logical; I didn't make that up either.
I assume that there is a workaround for this, but I haven't found it. Where are the files that I have been deleting all this time, which have filled up the non-existent trash?
Workaround?

Dolphin shows Trash in the Places Panel. (F9). You can also add a widget to the panel for the Trashcan, (right click panel, unlock widgets, Panel settings, add widget). -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Those are both very helpful. Thanks. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I was running that. 4.5 now.

Of course not, because KDE4 *DOES* have a trash. I have its icon slightly enlarged on the bottom right corner of my screen as I type this.
I assume that there is a workaround for this, but I haven't found it. Where are the files that I have been deleting all this time, which have filled up the non-existent trash?
No workaround needed because its not a bug. I sounds like you've chosen not to display the widget. Recall: everything in the KDE4 'desktop' is a widget. Or whatever they are called.... Stan? So - do this: * right-click on a clear part of your screen You get a popup: * run command * add widget * add panel * activities * lock widgets * lock screen * leave * desktop settings Add a widget. One of them is the trashcan. Put the widget up on your desktop. You'll see its full of stuff. Now right-click on it and you get a menu. One of the options is to empty the trashcan. There's a key sequence but it doesn't work for me. Its not a bug. KDE4 is wonderful. -- When I used to teach creative writing, I would tell the students to make their characters want something right away even if it's only a glass of water.
