Tom, I completely disagree, here. My big gripe with all the linux manuals, books, etc. is that everything is presented in terms of DOS and ms-windows. I have never used dos or ms-windows. I haven't a clue what is being made so much clearer by these references. Linux should stand alone as the great operating system it is. The instructions would be clearer and more concise if the comparisons were left out, or put in a separate section (linux for former ms users). The rest of your post was excellant.
