Okay, got my desktop configured nicely and I downloaded the bitstream fonts. Much easier on the eyes under Gnome 2.2. I'm happy. There's one lingering problem, however, which is really bugging me. I can't get my Palm m130 to connect without kernel panicing. This is ridiculous. The outside of the box even mentions synchronization with Palm as a feature. But not only does it not synch AvantGo as I could under 8.1, but it can't even connect to the palm without panicing. Anyone have any experience with this? Will SuSE support cover this? Preston

FWIW, my tungsten synced fine - I just had to give it a minute or two the first time to recognise the device (watch /var/log/messages for the device being claimed by visor.o, and listen for the beeps!). Also, I had to create the symlink /dev/pilot to ttyUSB0 (to which the Tungsten connects), although your device probably uses ttyUSB1. What errors do you see when the Palm connects? And (silly question) are you using the versions of visor.o and pilot-link that came with 8.2? I'm not now. I used the ximian RPMs for 8.1 and upgraded gnome-pilot and pilot-link and now it works without kernel panicing. Still now conduit for AvantGo, however, which is pretty annoying. Preston

Okay, I got it working without the Ximian rpms (uninstalled them --nodeps, reinstalled the ones that come with 8.2). I think what I did wrong the first time was that I symlinked to /dev/usb/ttyUSB0 instead of /dev/ttyUSB0. Not exactly sure why that would make a difference, but.... Still, no AvantGo conduit, though. Is there any way to get individual conduits? Preston
Slightly off-topic here, but has anyone got a bluetooth USB adapter to work on 8.2 with a Tungsten? I tried the Palm discussion groups but no one uses Linux. Tom On Fri, 2003-04-25 at 08:53, me@prestoncrawford.com wrote:

It sounds like you used to have it working - why not just install the plugin you used then? Or, even easier, install the syncmal plugin for JPilot from your 8.2 media, because this is the AvantGo plugin as the description shows. Other programs probably have equivalents, or you could use the commandline version (syncmal).
