[SLE] Failed service in runlevel 2: junkbuster
Hi there, In my last post I left out a couple of details - sorry about that. Here's the real deal: I recently downloadad and installed junkbuster rpm -i junkbuster.rpm However, after boot I get the following messages: Starting Name Service Daemon /sbin/init.d/rc2.d/S84junkbuster: /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions: No such file or directory Master Resource Control: Failed service in runlevel 2: junkbuster I checked to see if any of the files mentioned on this list are where they're supposed to be and they are: /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K09junkbuster /etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K09junkbuster /etc/rc.d/rc2.d/S84junkbuster /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S84junkbuster /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S84junkbuster /etc/rc.d/rc6.d/K09junkbuster /etc/rc.d/init.d/junkbuster /etc/junkbuster/aclfile /etc/junkbuster/config /etc/junkbuster/forward /etc/junkbuster/trust However, the file /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions doesn't exist. I run SuSE Linux version 6.2 Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Yatsen Ng yatsen.ng@brunel.nl Den Haag, The Netherlands It said "Needs Windows 95 or better". Then, edit (at least on red-hat system) /etc/rc.d/rc.local to auto start xfstt, keep in mind you don't have to sync unless you add new fonts. So, in my rc.local it would look like this: - SNiP - if [ -f /sbin/rc.local]; then /sbin/xfstt & echo "TTF font server activated" fi - SNiP - W.D.McKinney (Dee) dee.mckinney@acsalaska.net "The trouble with doing nothing is it's hard to tell if you are finished." -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

1. In the docs for xfstt there is a script for starting it. It looks something like this (the entirety of mine): #!/bin/bash # # chkconfig: 345 95 05 # # description: A X11 fontserver for TrueType fonts. # # pidfile: /var/run/xfstt.pid # processname: xfstt XFSTT=/usr/X11R6/bin/xfstt#!/bin/bash # # chkconfig: 345 95 05 # # description: A X11 fontserver for TrueType fonts. # # pidfile: /var/run/xfstt.pid # processname: xfstt XFSTT=/usr/X11R6/bin/xfstt CACHE=/var/cache/xfstt TTFONTS=/usr/share/fonts/truetype PORT=7101 USER=nobody # Source function library. #. /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions # See how we were called. case "$1" in start) # Start daemons. echo -n "Starting xfstt: " $XFSTT --cache $CACHE --dir $TTFONTS --sync > /dev/null 2>&1 #daemon $XFSTT --port $PORT --user $USER --dir $TTFONTS --cache $CACHE --daemon $XFSTT --port $PORT --user $USER --dir $TTFONTS --cache $CACHE --daemon echo touch /var/lock/subsys/xfstt ;; stop) # Stop daemons. echo -n "Shutting down xfstt: " killproc $XFSTT echo rm -f /var/lock/subsys/xfstt ;; restart) $0 stop $0 start ;; status) status xfstt ;; *) echo "Usage: $0 {start|stop|restart|status}" exit 1 esac exit 0 Put this script in file /etc/rc.d/xfstt and mark it executable. 2. In /etc/rc.d/rc2.d and also in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d put symbolic links to the script. basicly place a script that starts it in /sbin/init.d and create symbolic links from /sbin/init.d/rc2.d and ..../rc3.d to it: cd rc2.d ln -s S20xfstt ../startxfstt There is a more sophisticated skeleton script in /sbin/init.d. Or, perhaps easier, just put the line xfstt & in your boot.local file.

Yes, Steve, the font server is a service (that might be accessed via the local network). I frequently see the remark "put it in boot.local". True, it works but... That's why the System V concept was created for; my first Linux version (<=1995) hat this "autoexec.bat" style with I think two files that were relevant. When you wanted to alter things you had to run through a big file and uncomment and pray for no errors. hat to remove a lot of comments to start the NFS server (and reboot). System V looks a bit more complicated in the beginning, but is much better. I use boot.local to set stuff for ISDN and set harddrive parameters. But again, this seems to be a religious issue.
