What graphics card do you have?
nVidia MX 400, I never had problems with it. Besides, the graphical interface starts but it goes back to the console mode. :-\
What version of Suse are you running?
9.1
What have you changed on the system lately?
I was installing some XFree86 libraries, nothing too eccentric. Dalton --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.627 / Virus Database: 402 - Release Date: 16/3/2004
Interesting. Now I want to figure how I'm going to do this easily on the console. Suse insists you should update nVidia drivers trough the YOU, but since I don't have the graphical interface.... Can I use the installation cd to do this? I've seen a "driver update" section within "kernel modules" menu. I'm gonna try it...
Whenever you install or upgrade either the kernel or the X libs you need to reinstall the nvidia driver

YaST runs in text mode too, and looks pretty much the same [as far as possible :P ]. Cheers, Leen

You can still run yast, without the desktop. You'll get a text mode version, which you have to manouver around, using the keyboard.

I've chosen the "reload all patches" on the YOU, but even doing this it doesn't show all patches, just the one's I haven't installed. Is it normal? I have tried to install the nVidia drivers through that nVIDIA run file too, but it says it can't find a precompiled kernel interface. From what I'm reading on other forums, this is common. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). :) There is a combo box, labeled 'Show Patch Category'. Guess what it is for. ;)

Perhaps the nvidia-installer-howto can help: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/ Cheers, Leen

I followed this one on my machine and it almost makes it. Hoever, X failed after doing parts of it. What stick did you use? ;) (Just installed the new drivers myself. Piece of cake.) Cheers, Leen
