This one is driving me a little mad *8-Q Is there any way to somehow force my fonts back to their original (just after the install) state? Mine seem to be really flaky - fonts in the konsole will just change for no reason and the font I was using disappears from the font selector - sometimes if I delete a font with the font manager the font I was using will reappear. I just don't seem to be able to get a stable setup going here >8-( sjb
Something similar happened to my, check when you are doing the changes if
you are logged as root or user, this can make a difference.

Good point. As it happens, I kicked off SuSEconfig and that's sorted them out again - well, not entirely sorted them out, but I can at least pick a decent konsole font. The other KDE annoyance which I don't seem to be able to fix is the desktop icons moving around when I log in. If I arrange the icons the way I want, I can see KDE write the correct positions into the ~/Desktop/.directory file when I logout, but when I log back in the icons are out of position and the file gets overwritten with the wrong positions. I tried removing write positions from .directory, but that just stops KDE from saving the wrong poitions, not from re-arranging the icons. sjb

sjb, This particular problem has already been covered and resolve in previous mails. It has to do with susewatcher. Check last month's mail archives for mails pertaining to the icons or susewatcher and you will find the solution. Thanks, Patrick - I found the thread and the solution. That'll teach me to look through the archives ;-) sjb

True - and if they made that archive searchable, I might use it more often. Mind you, I've not cleared out my mailbox since April - so the solution was probably in there too ... sjb

Searchable archives do exist. Check the FAQ, another important reference. Location of FAQ is provided in *every* footer. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org
