[opensuse] The IcedTea java in Factory - a native 64bit javaplugin
Hi all, thanks to Bernard Kaindl we have an IcedTea Java in Factory. The package java-1_7_0-sun should be installed on 10.3 and have a native 64bit javaplugin which works with 64bit version of Firefox. You are welcome to install it and test. The plugin works very well, some java applications (mailfaces, postarmor)also worked well, however some do not. One of the examples is freemind that produce the following error <<<<<<<<< tdec@amd:~/installations/freemind> sh freemind.sh ERROR: Your Java virtual machine is neither Sun nor Blackdown, ======================================= FREEMIND WILL MOST PROBABLY *NOT* WORK, ======================================= define JAVACMD, JAVA_BINDIR, JAVA_HOME or PATH in order to point to such a VM. See the manpage of freemind(1) for details. ERROR: Couldn't find freemind under '.'.

Blackdown refers to 1.4, that is old...
M9, I am aware of blackdown java because it has the plugin but it has not been updated. This was the message from freemind. The freemind I am using is the last beta. There are other users having the same problem. I will try to redirect freemind to other JRE. Before I installed IcedTea I had 1.5 and 1.6 installed now they are gone. This week I will look what is in those IcedTea rpms and what changed have them done in my system The purpose of the message is to let all of you know, that you may have some unwanted effects after the installation of this java 64b plugin (..and IT java 1.7) and also how are you dealing with them. I installed it via downloading it to my downloaded rpm folder, which I have setup as a repository, meaning I installed it via Yast, and that did not happen to me. i.e. joe@jmorris:~> rpm -qa | grep java gcc41-java-4.1.3_20070724-15 java-1_5_0-sun-1.5.0_update14-0.1 java-1_7_0-icedtea-plugin-1.5_b24-1 gcc42-java-4.2.1_20070724-17 java-1_5_0-sun-jdbc-1.5.0_update14-0.1 java-1_7_0-icedtea-1.5_b24-1 java-1_5_0-sun-alsa-1.5.0_update14-0.1 theora-java-20071009-0.pm.1 java-1_4_2-gcj-compat-32bit-1.4.2.0-177 gcc-java-4.2-24 ffmpeg-java-20071012-0.pm.1 javamail-1.4-108 As you can see, I still have 1.5 installed. Hi, The JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/ would help you. I dont know about freemind's startup script, but there should be one of the JAVACMD, JAVA_BINDIR, JAVA_HOME variables inside. So you can setup one of these variables. Regards Michal Vyskocil -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
