Subject: Fw: help: PPP+ipchains/masq misbehaving
greetings:
i am having a pickle of a time getting the following to work. i am on a
suse 6.4 box, with the appropriate updates installed (ppp, ipchains, wvdial)
to be a dial out gateway for my office LAN. the kernel is the stock 2.2.14
if it matters. ipfwd and ipmasq are in there (i know because if i manually
execute scripts everything works).
i have successfuly used wvdial to dial on demand to establish pppd.
the problem i am having is that EVEN though i have ipchains rules written
into my ip-up script, and in the appropriate sections of ip-up that is
ip-down, they don;t take. i have tried to put sleep statements in the script
to try and wait for the system to 'catch-up' to the things like the
re-ifconfigs and re-routes to take place and settings to take effect. but
nothing seems to work.
if i manually execute the rules sets, then everything works.
i can not figure out what the problem is.
i would greatly appreciate everyone/anyone's help on figuring this out.
i have enclosed a few files/documentation:
ppp.txt which is a compilation of kernel logs and ipchians -L i think if you
look at this, you will see what symptoms i am seeing.
ip-up script which is my hacked version of the stock script that installed
w/suse and includes my rules
fwscript which is a vanilla script i generated from packetfilter.dynip.com
for ppp0 that works to get traffic in/out
TIA
