Hello SuSE users. A strange thing has started to happen to me. I am running 7.1, with the 2.4.7 GB kernel, and the KDE that came with 7.1. Version 2.0 something? Anyway when X starts and I get the log-on screen I will put in the user name and password. KDE starts to load. The logo box shows the loading process in % and the KDE "music" starts to play. It will show loading up to 55% and stop and then the icons and menu bars will show as if normally loaded. At this point though KDE is locked up. Nothing else will load when selected. I then have to kill X and restart at the log-on screen. I may have to do this process 3 or 4 times before the logo box shows at least 77% and then KDE will function correctly. It is as though something which is supposed to be loading is too slow or not loading at all. This will also happen logging in as root. Any ideas? Bob S.
Have no idea abt what exactly the matter is but guess it cd be a XFree problem. An easy way of getting rid of it, without concerning yrself abt the basic reasons of the failure , is downlaoding the last 4.1 from xfree.org, follow the instructions which come with the files abt how to install, install and then reconfigure from xf86config, not sax or sax2. Some video cards are'nt well backed by the former version of xfree. Bob Stia wrote:

Well, I'll tell you it happened to me awhile back. I had an older X-server installed to give more compatibility to a crummy sis6326 agp video. With this older X server, AND with a vanilla kernel, KDE would not load, just as you described. When I put the default suse kernel in, KDE would load. I don't know what the differences in kernels were, but I'm guessing it was something to do with farmebuffer support, which suse enables by default. I know that this probably dosn't answer your question, but I just wanted to let you know your situation isn't unique. That is why I'm a fvwm2 user.....it never gives any problems.
