can someone shed some light on why earthlink.net can't be pinged

Looks like they are rejecting ICMP on their firewall. Many companies do
this for security reasons.
http://earthlink.net is accessible via HTTP, so that proves they are up!
Is there any reason you must ping earthlink.net? Are you just using it
for testing purposes?

well i had an issue with dns resolving earlier conecting to my pop3 and at
one point
postfix told me it could not resolve earthlink.net
so i was tryng to trouble shoot my problem

Ralph De Witt has been asking me about getting nvidia drivers. He's says he can't dl using either http or ftp protocols. He's using earthlink dsl.
