[opensuse] Fwd: openSUSE Social Networking Demo Site
Here is a message that I sent to the -project list. Sending it out to others for more comments. I don't view this as a one size fits all, but another means of gathering and communicating. For some MLs are best, others it might be irc, etc. Not sure that I view this as a means of support, but a place to hang out and get to know more people with common interests within the openSUSE community. Thanks, Stephen ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Stephen Shaw <sshaw@decriptor.com> Date: Wed, Apr 8, 2009 at 1:59 AM Subject: openSUSE Social Networking Demo Site To: openSUSE Project ML <opensuse-project@opensuse.org> I was thinking about this and thought it would be cool to have an openSUSE Social Networking Site. Yes, I know it sounds weird, but think it would be cool to have a common social gather place for people that like/use/enjoy openSUSE. To me wikis don't jump out and scream community as much as a social site. I set up a demo site: http://www.opensuse-community.com I know that is extremely similar to http://www.opensuse-community.org . I figured that worst case I could setup a demo site there. Whatever the outcome is, the domain can stay or I can redirect it. I'm interested in hearing your feedback. Not sure that I follow. The site? The site is using blogging software. Though its become more of a CMS and with buddypress it turns it more into a social networking site with blogs (though disabled in this setup) Stephen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Seems real good to me. Have you seen Ning though? Used very popularily around the world, you can see from the Network Search function... http://www.ning.com/ I've played around with it but then deleted my site. You can host it on your own like how Chris Prillo did at http://www.geeks.com... But this seems good; it loads real fast and I just created a account under jaloola. I'm not familiar with BuddyPress, though it looks like a customized Wordpress. Just checked again, that other email was a draft that I wrote about a hour ago and back then it was a actual community... Now it's a wiki???? I really don't like wikis as Social Networking sites... Not sure why you think its a wiki. I did post a url to the community wiki (opensuse-community.ORG), but the social site is opensuse-community.COM. It is using buddypress which is a plugin/system on top of wordpress mu. Cheers, Stephen

I am so sorry; I got confused and just clicked on the first link I saw in your original email again. I thought it was the same, I didn't look at the gTLD.... Sorry. And I do not think it's a wiki now :), I mentioned that in my other email (the first one)...
