Webmin and Suse 8
Dear All, I would love to use webmin on my Suse 8 but so far no luck. I downloaded and installed it but when I go to the https://localhost:10000 I just get an error saying that the connection was refused. I tried the http://localhost:10000 as well and that was refused, too. How do I connect with Suse 8? I was using it with Linux-Mandrake 9 without a problem. Thanks. Marcia

REPLY: We have SuSE 7.2, 7.3 & 8.0 servers (20 of them) and I manage them with webmin. And they have no problems. Maybe is the way you installed or How was your linux system installed previous to install webmin. I usually use the RPM to install and manually do rpm -Uvh webmin* Make shure that you have the OS installed properly with apache, perl, php and ssl installed and then install webmin Regards Victor - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NetSystems Info Inc. 164 rue Ideal St-Eustache, Quebec J7P !R3, CANADA -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE988JH3GpaTL3AppcRAumIAJ915l8tkKymVw61gq4uQXxhF3JYswCginzJ 2a8r9XJ6jgEs6aL5Kn8fFBU= =qNlf -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Although I'm not positive on this, I don't think any of the above are necessary for webmin. It is its own server..... I know for sure that ssl isn't needed. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Just for grins, I just shut down apache and Webmin is still working nicely on SuSE 8.0. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. How did you go about installing Webmin? I've installed it on SuSE 6.4, 7.1, 8.0 and 8.1 both from source and from RPM package. If you tell us how you installed it, it would really help us to help you. Regards, Geordon Marcia> Dear All, Marcia> I would love to use webmin on my Suse 8 but so far no luck. One thing that tripped me up once was forgetting that I'd named my computer something besides localhost. I think SuSE usually defaults to a name like "suselinux." You can check to see what the name is in YAST. Be well, Lissa -- When you reread your stuff and think, "Damn, I'm good!" you may be in danger. Correct. I used the name of my system instead of localhost and then it worked fine. Stan Lissa wrote:

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I just discovered that I can get into webmin now with the localhost address when I use Opera but it will not open in Mozilla! Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Thanks again. Marcia
Interesting... I can get into mine one of 3 ways; 1. http://localhost:10000 2. http://127.0.0.1:10000 3. http://192.168.1.1:10000 All should be acceptable to webmin.... (obviously your IP in number 3 will be different possibly !!!) Another tip would be to try http://127.0.0.1:10000/ If that works and localhost does not work, your /etc/hosts is bad. Regards Ole
