Hello list! Ok, here's my problem: Until last week I've been running Slackware96 quite happily, but I eventually felt the need to upgrade, so I got me a copy of S.u.s.e. Linux 5.1 (November 1997). Almost everything about this is great, nice install, config and so on, and lots and lots of apps. That I like. However, the upgrade introduced an annoying problem with my SCSI CD: It is quite jerky when playing audio, sometimes it just stops playing for a couple of tenths of a second, sometimes it stops and freezes up the whole system for *several* seconds. Using regular CD-ROMS don't seem to be any problem at all, and in windows95, audio CD is fine too. I notice when running X, that moving the mouse around a lot generates noise (and even the jerkiness described before). This was not so in slackware, which I ran from a 2.0.27 kernel patched with Tekram DC-390 SCSI Driver. My hardware: K6-200 on SOYO VX mainboard, 32 mb EDO RAM. Microsoft PS/2 style mouse on IRQ 12. Tekram DC-390 (Fast SCSI-2 version) SCSI controller on IRQ 11. 3com etherlink III ISA combo netcard (not used under linux, for win95 gaming only), irq 9. Soundblaster32 pnp with 2 Mb RAM, running with SB16 driver (ie no EMU8000), irq 5. STB Lightspeed 128 Video, 2 Mb SVGA card, irq 15. IBM 2.1 Gb SCSI-2 harddrive (id 1), Seagate 1.0 Gb SCSI-1 CCS (id 2) (? stated by kernel, not sure what it means), Pioneer DR-U12X SCSI-2 Cdrom Firmware v1.06 (id 0). The system is installed on the faster IBM disk for speed, and mounts DOS partitions from the slower Seagate disk. I tried to configure a minimalist kernel for my hardware, and boot that one, but the problem remains the same as when I run the default install-kernel found on the CDs. I also noticed that the jerkiness seems to be worse when there is much going on in the system (i.e. lots of filesystem access, surfing the net and so on), but it is problematic when the system is idle too...
