Microsoft Core Fonts.
Hi. On my SuSE 10.0 Eval, I want to install the Microsoft true type fonts. On the open source I can see, that they are installed from YOU: "We will use the Microsoft Core Fonts. You should get them from YOU, the SuSE update manager." How do I set up YOU for that ?. Erik Jakobsen

In the YOU screen place a check mark in the little box to the left of the selection in the left hand pane. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

Where is it in the YOU ?. In Installation Source ?.
Can't check right now as the online update list server appears to be down, can't get a list of servers. It is in the same place that has all of the bug fixes/updates. It may be near the bottom of the list on the left. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

Actually my laptop lost it's wireless connection which is why I couldn't get a list of servers. Perhaps you have already installed them and that is why you don't see the selection. Try changing the selection to "Installable and Installed Patches" in the "Show Patch Category" pulldown just under the selection window. And make sure you are using "Online Update" and -not- "Software Management". -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

First you could check in Open Office to see if there is the 'Arial' font. If so then you probably have the MS core fonts pack already. If not then you need to go past the installation sources to the actual list of packages available. At the top of the scree just to the left you can change whether you want installed packages, installation summary and others. I'm not sure where the font pack will be shown but I think it is in the available updates section. This will be shown at the bottom left of the screen. You'll probably need to scroll down as there are security updates in red to start with. Then if I remember rightly you get recommended updates in blue then optional ones in black. The MS core fonts pack is in black. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Take care. I couldn't find Arial in the OOo. So I don't think I have MS core fonts pack installed. I now are on the "Installation Summary". From here what do I do ?. Please have a look at: https://www.urbakken.dk/inst_summary.png Erik Jakobsen

Ok Ken. Thanks for the explanation. I found the place now. I cannot see the Microsoft Core Font here, but maybe they are hided in a package, I'm not aware of what contents ?. By the way also thanks to the other ones, that replied to my not yet solved query. At least I found the place, and its not under Software Management ;-) Erik Jakobsen

At least I found the place, and its not under Software Management ;-) They are not all that easy to find. Here is exactly how to do it with YOU. 1 Bring up YOU (usually by right clicking the SuSE Watcher in your tray)

Underneath the list is "Show Path Category". Change from "Installable Patches" to "All Patches". This will list all patches. Now scroll down the list and the "Download Microsoft (r) TrueType Core Fonts" will be visible. Now click this. 4. Press Accept. You will get a dialog to install or not to install. In any case, it is the step 3 that is not all that intuitive. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9

When you run YOU, any uninstalled packages are listed. You select the ones you want and then click on Accept, to install. Any that you didn't select, will still be listed next time you run YOU. If you don't see the fonts, you've already installed them.
