Internet Child Protection?
Hi Folks, Was wondering what internet program or browser will keep my 9 year old daughter away from accidental mayhem/porn. She typed in "disney" incorrectly and got "dice ny" or something. Not bad, but could be worse. I remember in Internet explorer a slider bar thingy. I can't seem to find anything here in Mozilla. Thanks. Thom Nuzum Washington DC (just got back from Slackware 10, very impressed though the hardware detection on my home built was overly time consuming--keeping suse 9.1 here. It did setup out of box on HP Athlon Laptop better than suse. Boots twice as fast 2)

Try squidguard. It requires you to run squid and redirect. It's not entirely comprehensive and it can be a bit overzealous, but it's pretty effective. It's also not the easiest program to set up but with a little patience you can do it. The alternative is to find an ISP or proxy server that will give you access that does the job for you. Ideally your ISP will run squidguard, so you can set the proxy and they'll keep everything up to date. -- JDL

Check out http://www.dansguardian.org. It is one of the best of class. Unfortunately there are no suse rpms, you will need to compile, but it is not too hard. It also requires squid, but works extremely well. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871
