I didn't run anything. I was under the impression (maybe naively) that rpm carried out all the required instructions to complete the process. -----Original Message----- From: tabanna [mailto:tabanna@ifrance.com] Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 8:15 PM To: Gedi Subject: Re: [SLE] mantel kernel update did you run mkinitrd { with /boot partition mounted } best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________ _____________________________________________________________________ Envie de discuter en "live" avec vos amis ? Usually, I download from mantel directory, but I download the .tar.bz2 one. and compile a new kernel. For my machine with SMP there is working fine. On Fri, 17 Jan 2003, Ben Rosenberg wrote:

OK, I'm clear now....Thanks to everyone for their help I love the fact that the linux community always makes time to help, even when they may be at work doing their own jobs. Makes me wonder why people use Microsoft at all Thanks again. Usually this is true about running the mk_initrd after kernel rpm installs. However, when I tried to install the mantel updated k_athlon-2.4.18-167 kernel I did it from init level 3 and manually ran the rpm -Uvh command. I was surprised to see that after installing the updated kernel it appeared to automatically run the "mk_initrd" command since I saw the same output I see if I run it myself. I think this might be something they're trying to aurtomate or I could have just been watching something else happening that had a similar output one might see if they were to run "mk_initrd". Just and FYI, Curtis. On Friday 17 January 2003 14:48, Ben Rosenberg wrote:
