[opensuse] Tape Drive Error Log Utility
Hi, Does anyone have the linux utility for resetting the error codes on tape drives? (I cannot recall the name) I have a drive with 'Error 5' on the LED display which means a hardware error. It was due to a stuck tape which has since been removed but the drive is still in an error state. I have been on the phone to quantum but they will not support my drive or not send me a copy of the utility. (Wish I had bought a HP with lifetime warranty now). Thanks Paul -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Normally power cycle clears such errors.

Sorry was meant to 'reply list' not 'reply' I tried that already, no luck I'm afraid. The manual says that, in the case of any hardware errors the drive has a mechanism to prevent users from inserting a tape cartridge until the code is cleared using the utility. Hi Paul, do not know whether this would help, but have you readily looked at scsirastools? It allows you to send arbitrary commands to targets via the scsi interface (which is quite generic). Hope this helps take care Dieter Jurzitza Am Samstag, 21. Januar 2017, 13:04:53 schrieb Paul Groves:

First time I have heard of this package, will definitely look into it. The only challenge will be finding out the command :P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

LOL. No, surely he refers to the SCSI command he has to give to the scsirastools to send to the tape reader to produce the wanted result. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)
