network install on PII 400MHZ w/ 256Mb
I'm trying to install beta3 on a PII 400MHz with 256Mb RAM. I boot off CD1. If I specify manual=1, the installation procedure is unable to detect the harddisk, even if doing an "fdisk /dev/hda" in another tty works just fine. If instead I choose just Installation, then abort (to revert to manual install) as soon as I can, it works fine. I'll be trying beta4 in a while. /Per Jessen, Zürich

Please open a bugreport in bugzilla.novell.com and attach the YaST log files and the output of "hwinfo --all".

Why are you doing it this way? For network installation just press F3 at the linuxrc screen and select FTP as installation source...

Uh, haven't tried that - I'm installing over NFS. /Per Jessen, Zürich

OK, didn't know I had the option so soon. Somewhat easier. Thanks. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.de/freetrial - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution. Überzeugen Sie sich - 30 Tage kostenlos und unverbindlich!

I've just retried on a different system (Celeron 2.4GHz, 256Mb, ATIIXP chipset) - same result. As for the YaST log files - given that the installation can't complete, where do I find them? /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.ch/freetrial - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution. On the ram disk used as root during the installation. Switch to a text console and you'll find them in /var/log/YaST2/ just like on a normal system.

You have to load driver modules for hard disk and/or CDROM by hand (i.e. "manual"). Usually ide_disk and piix. Cheers -e -- Eberhard Moenkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

And ide_cd. Cheers -e -- Eberhard Moenkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

piix is offered up by one the dialog boxes, and I load it - and as I said, I have no problem accessing the IDE disks using fdisk? OK, I guess that could be module autoloading. Is this new in 10.0 - having to load ide_disk when doing a manual install? I don't remember having had to do it before. SCSI-drivers yes, but not IDE. Anyway, as far as I can see, the options offered by linuxrc F3 and F4 are all I need to do a NFS install, so really no need for manual=1. /Per Jessen, Zürich

Hi Eberhard, the IDE modules are loaded automatically. I only need to load PIIX. Anyway, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=115234. /Per Jessen
