[opensuse] Unable to rip an audio cd into mp3's using 11.2
I've got packman in my repo list and everything I think I need, came from there. I can play them. I seem to ba able to play anything. Neither k3b or dolphin work. All I get when playing one that has been ripped by k3b or via dolphin from an audio CD is static. Oggs and wavs are good. Just mp3s. Is there is a trick other than getting the right packages from packman??? When I slapped a music Cd in the drive, Device Notifier said there were 6 actions I could perform, one of which was rip with k3b. I selected that, got some warning about not being able to BURN a mp3 CD (didn't care) and clicked thru. It started to rip, asked mew what format, I selected mp3, a target directory and it fired up and started ripping with lame. (You did install Lame, right?). They play perfectly. I believe I got lame from pacman but without checking I can't be sure. -- A computer without Microsoft is like a chocolate cake without mustard. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I double checked/reloaded lame from packman and now it won't consistently rip mp3's. It works sometimes correctly. When it fails this is what I see. Could not read Dire Straits - 01 - Sultans of Swing.mp3: encoding failed WARNING: libsndfile may ignore -r and perform fseek's on the input. Compile without libsndfile if this is a problem. LAME 3.99 (alpha 1, Dec 14 2009 11:51:20) 32bits (http://www.mp3dev.org/) warning: alpha versions should be used for testing only CPU features: MMX (ASM used), 3DNow! (ASM used), SSE, SSE2 Using polyphase lowpass filter, transition band: 18671 Hz - 19205 Hz Encoding <stdin> to /tmp/kde-markh/kio_audiocdbh5994.mp3 Encoding as 44.1 kHz stereo MPEG-1 Layer III VBR(q=2) lame: lame.c:1513: save_gain_values: Assertion `(!((fabs(RadioGain) > fabs(GAIN_NOT_ENOUGH_SAMPLES)) ? I guess this is a packman/lame issue. Not related to SuSE. Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Interesting. I didn't even notice that but. #rpm -q lame lame-3.98.2-1.pm.4.15.i586 Hummm Official release: The current release version of LAME is 3.98.1 Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've already fetched, built, and installed the official package from sourceforge into /usr/local but.. #rpm -qf /usr/bin/lame lame-3.98.2-1.pm.4.15.i586 #/usr/bin/lame --version LAME 32bits version 3.99 (alpha 1, Dec 14 2009 11:51:20) (http://www.mp3dev.org/) warning: alpha versions should be used for testing only So far the official one has yet to barf. It'll be getting a workout this afternoon too. Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
