Greetings! Does anyone know how to set up an ipchains rule to prevent a certain computer on the network from having internet web access? I would like to actively discouraged web access from a Windows machine, but the machine must still be able to telnet out. My previous attempts have ended up as being all or nothing for access. Sorry, but I have to draw the line on the midnight porn visits from my roommates since this computer is in the family room AND around the corner from my bedroom door. ;) I'm planning to have cron jobs that would activate the web access in the morning and disconnect it before midnight. But one of my roommates is an on call support technician and he needs telnet access around the clock. So I need a rule that will cap the web access but not the telnet access. This is a lot better then me ripping out the network cable. Thanks! What about (on the gateway computer): ipchains -I input 1 -p tcp -s $WINIP -d 0.0.0.0/0 80 -j REJECT Where $WINIP is the IP address of the Windows machine. What is the syntax to delete this rule once it has been created? I tried replacing the -I with -D, but it had a syntax error. ipchains -D input 1 The above should get rid of that rule - no need to include the rest of it. Have you tried the following rule?
ipchains -A output -p tcp -s

--destination-port 80 -j REJECT I think you are using masquerading, so you could use a line like this in the "forward" chain... I am not sure, but I hope this will help you to point the right way.
I haven't tried this particular rule yet, but it looks like a good starting point. Thanks! Christopher Reimer -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
