In the latest update in 15.2, something changed in the way I save files downloaded from the internet when in Chrome, or a Chrome based browser like Brave. It used to use Dolphin file manager, and that is much more convenient, because it requires less clicks to change the file name. Now it switched to the file manager that Gnome uses - I guess its Nautilus. I don't use Gnome very much, but I have it installed and sometimes go into it if there is something I need it for, so I have to keep the gnome base packages on my system. So how do you set Chrome so that it opens up the Dolphin file manager when you want to save a file from the internet? -- George Box: 15.2 | Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 15.2 | Plasma 5 | AMD FX 7TH GEN | 64 | 32GB Laptop #2: TW | Plasma 5 | Core i7 | 64 | 16GB

Since a few days, I've the very same problem. It's time comsuming and frustrating. (Especially when uploading images for WordPress pages with Google Chrome. Horrible!) However, I don't suspect Nautilus, as I don't have it on my box. :) Till now I can't find a solution. Because you mentioned Brave, I installed that browser too. Now I have: Firefox -> Dolphin Opera -> Dolphin Vivaldi -> Dolphin Chromium -> Dolphin Google Chrome: ? (horrible) Brave: ? (horrible) M$ Edge: ? (horrible)
So how do you set Chrome so that it opens up the Dolphin file manager when you want to save a file from the internet?
Maybe the change of the file manager in use, is related to the 'rendering engine'. Let's hope w'll find out! -- Harrie Baken running Leap 15.2

Yes, I can't figure it out. My default file manager is Dolphin in my default applications, and I don't have gnome installed, so I don't have any gnome file manager installed. Somewhere there is something telling chrome to use a gtk based file manager instead of Dolphin as the instance to save a download, but in looking through all the different configuration files and searching high and low on the internet, I am out of options. So I guess I will just have to live with it. -- George Box: 15.2 | Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 15.2 | Plasma 5 | AMD FX 7TH GEN | 64 | 32GB Laptop #2: TW | Plasma 5 | Core i7 | 64 | 16GB

Maybe it is internal to Chrome. You could run in a terminal "ps afx | less". Locate in that tree the chrome process, and then you will see if it has children. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.2 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

Nope. Chrome, like basically _any_ other application uses the corresponding file-dialogs of the toolkit used. KDE stuff uses the Qt one and Chrome uses the GTK3 FileChooserDialog, see https://docs.gtk.org/gtk3/class.FileChooserDialog.html for Details. There isn't any file manager involved at all. Georgia, fwiw I'm having the same issue with Chrome. After an update a week or two ago, the download dialog box both appeared and behaved differently. Then after another update on the 23rd, download does not work at all now (worked on the 22nd) . . . furthermore, saving a file to pdf via the print dialog, saving a pdf file downloaded into a tab, and saving an image off a web page, all do not work now. I've found nothing in the logs or on the net to explain it. --dg 15.2 & 15.3/KDE

I am having this issue now with Chrome and Chromium in Leap 15.2. Both saving a download and saving a print as PDF just flash the pop-up window and don't save anything. Is there something we can do regarding the glibc library? I have the version 2.26-lp152.26.12.1 from November 4th, so it should have been fixed from September, no?
