I have a RAID controller and a gigabit nic that are sharing the same IRQ (IRQ11). I reserved IRQ 5 in the bios and I'd like to have the RAID controller use that IRQ port. How can I accomplish this?
By not reserving it and letting PCI plug&play do the job of assigning IRQs and IO-space. You may have to move one of the cards into a different slot, it depends on the motherboard.
Hello, There are only two PCI slots and both are sharing IRQ 11. Since I reserved IRQ 5 in the BIOS I can now have Linux use that IRQ port for the RAID controller. How does Linux assign IRQ ports and how can I 'tell' it to use a specific port for a specific device? From Yast, under Hardware I can view the resources of the devices, however you can't change them from there. Where can I can change the resources? Thank you for your help. James

James, how exactly did you reserve it? You told the BIOS not to use it for PnP assignment? That usually means it's reserved for ISA to use.

On a matter of terminology an IRQ is just IRQ or perhaps IRQ#, not "IRQ port". Not that it affects what you're trying to achieve :-) I cannot be certain, but I suspect you might be of luck. With only 2 PCI slots, I think they're most probably sharing the IRQ. I've seen it many times before. The way Linux "tells" a device to use a certain IRQ is through driver/module options. Normally one shouldn't fiddle with what PnP does, but some modules do allow it. You'd have to check the specific module for your RAID card and see if it has any options for setting the IRQ.
