[opensuse] Protecting the openSUSE Project from "poisonous people"
While the vast majority of participants on the openSUSE mailing lists are good citizens of those lists, we have from time to time had problems with a few individuals who seek to use the lists to derail conversations and abuse other members of the project. Last October, we banned a user going by the name of Aaron Kulkis from the lists. He has rejoined the mailing lists under several new identities, (including "Matt Archer," "Raskolnivkov Tkachuk," "Evans Garde," and "Washington Irving"). This has been brought to the board's attention, and we are investigating options to enforce the decision we made last October. In the meantime, we would like to remind others on the mailing lists to stop responding to his emails. If you see him using another alias, just send a note to opensuse+owner@opensuse.org. "derail and abuse other members"!? You've got to be joking!! You mean bringing up valid objections or arguing points in posts that someone doesn't agree with is now 'derailing' said post/topic or 'abusing' any particular poster!? Poisonous people!? Anyone who doesn't kowtow to the SuSE gang and its hangers-on are now 'poisonous' because they find points to object to or has a difference of opinion on any particular subject!? Nice attack on the person or persons instead of their argumets of a subject, Andreas. I bet you've got all kinds of the whiners and hypocrites of this list just kissing your butt in gratitude for that post of yours, and I'm sure I'll get to be labeled an infidel also for speaking out against you, and the list hypocrites will descend like harpies to denounce and condemn me and declare list jihad against me for it. How's it feel being able to have the power to tell someone they have or have not the use of free speech and can or cannot voice their opinion? You must be taking lessons from the ragheads wanting Danish cartoonists deaths! Bet that head of yours is swelled bigger than the Hindenburg. Mind someone doesn't strike a match near it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sounds like a done deal. Why don't you just leave him alone. We all know that he can be annoying with his direct and confrontational manner. Those who find him offensive can just "bit-bucket" him. Here in the U.S. we value freedom of speech and the right to dissent when that individual thinks something is improper in his mind. Maybe it's good to have a "voice in the wilderness" here at times. I'm sure that many of us read his comments, but we are all grown adults and can make up our own minds as to their veracity. Absolutely marvellous sentiments - and fabulously rhetorical. Only in America are these values in existence and no where else in the world, right? All this aside, I don't think that the board, which Andreas refers to, is going to reverse its decision made last October, AND it was not made by a single individual beavering away in the bowels of the organisation. I repeat: "last October" - that's 8 months ago. Meaning that it isn't simply a "on the spur of the moment" decision. It would take (a) very brave man/men to reverse such a decision -- irrespective of whether you or I or others may support (the sentimental drivel called) "freedom of speech" and "the right to dissent". I don't think Americans are the only people who value these ideals. Perhaps the expressions have become cliched or overused, but please don't refer to them as drivel. As a United States citizen (there are other countries in the Americas), I feel these values have been under attack in this country lately. They are more important than ever and the very foundation of this country. And yes, they should be tempered by some sense of civility. -- -Chris Innis SuSE User chris_innis@hughes.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Around 50% of conversations on this list steer way off. Plus: Where, please, is the opensuse compendium of intolerable abuse? Do you realize you sound like Robert Mugabe talking about opposition?

What, like cutting a couple of backbones? Get real, there is no way a mailing list can win this. Surprisingly desperate statement, though. You really think, it's worth it?
