Anybody out there using a DVD player with SuSE 6.4, 2.2.14. If so, how well do you like it ? and is there a suggested speed? I was looking at a memorex 6x DVD 32x cdrom. It was $99 dollars at a local Office Depot. Hi, If you mean by player, watching movies on the dvd then there is very little choice. At the moment I think Livid is the only software decoder which apparantly needs a lot of processing power from your PC. And the only hardware decoders I know that are supported are the Creative Dxr2 and Dxr3. The Dxr2 has worked for some time while the Dxr3 is only started recently but seems to be working well. I have the Dxr2 and it's worked since SuSE 6.1 with very little problems. The speed if the DVD drive itself doesn't really matter for the movies. The only requirement is that it is at least 2x DVD speed. The main problem is the decoding of the movie. With a hardware decoder things are made very easy, but a software decoder requires a beefy CPU to function properly. As for general DVD-ROM issues, they work perfectly in SuSE 6.4. And it's great being able to set up an installation with the DVD, come back in a few hours and everything is installed. Hope that help RikD Michael Lane wrote:

I have a videologic DVD Player hardware decoder. I'm sure I read somewhere once that it is the same card (ie same chipset) as the Creative Dxr2, but I have been unable to confirm this. Can anyone point me towards ant urls where I might investigate further ? Mike On Fri, 01 Sep 2000, Rik Dunphy wrote: > Hi, >
