[opensuse] Click-able URL, howto
If I email an interesting URL to an interesting party they sometimes seem to have a problem with the URL because it is not click-able. Ctrl C, Ctrl V works of course in order to copy and paste, even in Win as I found out on my wife’s computer. But there must be a more elegant way to provide an URL. How could I make e.g. following URL click-able? http://software.opensuse.org/122/en -- Linux User 183145 using KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 12.3 Beta 1 (i586) Kernel: 3.7.2-1-desktop KDE Development Platform: 4.9.98) 15:46pm up 2:56, 3 users, load average: 1.74, 1.21, 1.14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The URL is clickable for me because kmail recognizes it as a URL and allows me to click on it. I think it is a problem with the mail client on the receiving end, they should use something sensible Unless of course you want to start sending HTML emails, and have <a href=> style links (but please don't do that, convince people to use functional email clients instead) Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

URLs are just text that the email app recogizes as a URL. As an example I'll just type in www.opensuse.org and see what happens. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yep it works. I clicked on the link and no problems at all. This is with Seamonkey. In the received messages, where I just typed in the URL text, I now see a URL, as expected. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It works better with the "http://" part. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Email client with a little imagination, like Claws Mail, will assume that www.opensuse.org is a link, unlike opensuse.org , which will need help of http:// as in http://opensuse.org . -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It depends on the receivers software, not how you send it. The above was clicklable in knode. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (0.7°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In my wifes case it is e.g. Thunderbird (stil Windows) and there it is not clickable. Never send it to myself (Kmail) ;) -- Linux User 183145 using KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 12.3 Beta 1 (i586) Kernel: 3.7.2-1-desktop KDE Development Platform: 4.9.98) 18:50pm up 6:00, 3 users, load average: 1.51, 0.92, 0.78 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I use Thunderbird & Seamonkey and your link is clickable on both. I wonder if there's some setting in Thunderbird that might have been changed, so that links don't work. I have often sent links without problem. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It already is for me just the way it is in SeaMonkey, just as it is in other smart email apps. Try it this way for less intelligent email apps: <http://software.opensuse.org/122/en> -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." A variation on this ... If I visit a web site in my browser (firefox) that has clickable likes I can click though on those URLS. Nothing surprising here, that's how its supposed to work. If I save that page and return later opening the saved file I can still click though on those links. There are variations on this if I use wget to save a site and have the links reformatted locally ... but never mind. Now suppose instead of just saving to a file and having to save all the relevant download - css, images - I use the 'print to file' mechanism I see in CUPs when I invoke the print. Would you expect that the resulting PDF would have clickable links? Based on past experience - and yes I still have the files like that around - I do so expect. But recently it hasn't been working. The fidls in the PDF aren't clickable. What has changed? Oh, right, I keep updating software. Is this print function done on my local machine rather than a loop-back to the CUPS daemon on my print server (which is also my mail server but never mind that...) -- If you keep your mind sufficiently open, people will throw a lot of rubbish into it. --William Orton -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is clickable. Tried thunderbird and Alpine - so the problem is in your mail client. It is also customary to enclose the url inside these type of brackets "<>" wich should serve to avoid wraping and easier detection of the whole as a link. <http://software.opensuse.org/122/en> - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
