Hi, Looks like my Suse 7.0 server has "forgotten" to jump forward one hour.. poor thing is still one hour behind the rest of us. ;) Why hasnt it changed the time? Shouldnt this be automatic? Can I fix this and make it automatic? Thanks!
I just sync my box to an internet time-server every hour. That takes care of everything... Kind regards Guy

Hello, Just use Yast1 and the System Administration menu to correctly set your Time Zone. I just did it on my 7.1 pro ! -- Francis Allouchery Running Süse Linux 7.1 Fr.All@wanadoo.fr www.suse.com GPG Key fingerprint = 11A5 8BAF 3E9F DC1D F47B 7B6B FD03 D29E 7C71 3D9B

If you have the hardware clock set to GMT (and told yast about it), it will change automagically between summer and winter time, because this is done without changing the hardware clock. Otherwise, this is not automatic, and should not be automatic! After all, what would happen to your clock if you had several different operating systems installed on the computer? How should they know which of them had the rights to update the hardware clock? If all of them just set the clock one hour forward, you might suddenly be 5 hours ahead of the rest of your timezone. Regards Ole
Is it possible to set up a server in such a way that each user could have a different view of the system time? I'm imagining a system with its system hardware clock set to UTC, and users with shell accounts all over the world. Could each user have their own timezone value, so that times displayed by applications running under their shell would be in their own local time? So that their e-mail would be timestamped from their own timezone? I don't see anything obvious, like a timezone field with /etc/passwd. How would I go about implementing it in Linux? -- Rick Green "I have the heart of a little child, and the brain of a genius. ... and I keep them in a jar under my bed"
